The Footing Tube

TOOLS REQUIRED
Shovel
Level
Utility Knife

MATERIALS
The Footing Tube
4.8 Cubic Feet of concrete

PROCEDURE

1 - Excavate
Depth required that will
eliminate frost from
going under pier.

2 - Install
Install the Footing Tube in the desired location.
(Center and Level on Safety Top)

3 - Backfill
Backfill to grade required
before pouring concrete.
Minimum 3 ft.
(Using coarse rock fill may damage tube)

4 - Fill
Remove Safety Top along scribe line and fill with concrete to desired height.

COORDINATIONS - (The Footing Tube)

Excavation & Backfill - Can be done moments apart with same machine, no wasted time. Compaction of backfill can be done prior to filling tube with concrete.

Weather conditions - Wet conditions will not stop installation.

Materials required - Just one product to remember to bring. Exact amount of concrete needed is labeled on each tube.

Backfill material - Existing ground can be used to backfill The Footing Tube. The plastic tapered form eliminates frost from bonding to concrete pier. No need to fill The Footing Tube with concrete before backfilling.

Pouring of concrete - Does not have to be done right away. Many tubes can be installed at different times and poured at your convenience.

Common Method

TOOLS REQUIRED
- Shovel
- Saw
- Level
- Screw Driver

MATERIALS
- Footing Form
- Concrete to fill forms
- Construction Tube
- Screws
- Bracing
- Rebar
- Poly Wrap

PROCEDURE

1 - Excavate
Depth required that will eliminate frost from penetrating under pier.

2 - Install
Level footing form in desired location.

3 - Cut
Construction tube to footing form.

4 - Connect
Screw construction tube to footing form.

5 - Brace
Level & brace construction tube in position.

6 - Backfill
Backfill around footing to hold in place.

7 - Fill
Pour concrete to desired height.

8 - Install
Place rebar in concrete to connect footing to pier.

9 - Wait
Concrete needs time to cure before next step.

10 - Strip
Remove construction tube form.

11 - Wrap
Slip joint plastic wrapped around concrete pier.

12 - Backfill
Place backfill material around pier to grade required.

COORDINATIONS

Excavation & Backfill - Backfilling of the construction tube prior to pouring of concrete may weaken the tube due to soil water content. Concrete should be poured prior to backfill, construction tube removed and slip joint installed prior to backfilling of pier.

Weather conditions - It is recommended that a construction tube remain dry to keep its form and strength prior to pouring of concrete. Rainy damp weather makes timing of your job more dependent on the weather.

Materials required - Remembering all the components required to complete the installation. Can materials be picked up at one supplier? Waste of excess materials. If one or more of the materials are not installed, will the system fail?

Backfill material - Clean material may need to be used as backfill to further reduce the risk of frost bonding to pier. Drainage away from the base of the pier may also be required to reduce water around pier. Crushed rock and drain tile may be needed.

Pouring of concrete - Concrete should be poured right away due to weather and ground water. Calculation of amount of concrete required. Time required for concrete to cure before stripping form and backfilling.
